'mazikim' in an unoccupied home

it is well known that an unoccupied home has more potential for physical damage, [see bava kama 22:1].
i always had the understanding that the Mezuzah was of protection to the people that live there. Jusst recently I found in theSefer Kedushas Levi from R' Levi Y. from Barditchev, that the protection of the mezuzah also apllies to this particular issue, of protecting a unoccupied home, and yes, one who performes the mitzvah of mezuzah, merits to protection even of his/her unoccupied home.
